Background
Middle Earth, a derivative of the word Mediterranean and the literal interpretation of the Latin words 'medius' and 'terra', was established in 1983, and we have been manufacturing high-quality terracotta tiles at our factory in Warkworth for more than 20 years. We produce the same style of natural terracotta tile which has paved Mediterranean shores throughout history.
Middle Earth Tiles can now be found in tile shops and homes throughout New Zealand and we have garnered such international attention that our glazed tiles grace homes in the United States, Japan, Australia and Fiji.
Our tiles use only locally sourced clay and natural gas. The clay is dried naturally before being crushed and combined to produce the traditional looking terracotta tiles unique to Middle Earth. A special water-resistance treatment is added giving additional protection to the tiles, especially during the installation process. To give the tiles a variety of finishes, we import eco-friendly sealants and waxes especially formulated in Italy for terracotta.
Seven years ago we started producing a new innovative range of hand-glazed tiles and mosaics. These mosaics are individually hand-cut before being tumbled to remove any sharp edges.
